I apologize for not updating due to RL and hope to rectify that this month, hopefully by finishing this off for this year's unofficial NaNo (g). At any rate, the goal is to have the rough draft done BEFORE X3 :-)

A bit about Renaissance

I neglected to mention that while the genesis of this story was the movieverse, I did add some comicverse elements and mixed things up a little bit to suit my own purposes and that of the plot. Comicverse knowledge is thanks to talkingdonkey, who mailed me four thick books of X-Men comics -- including the Phoenix saga -- so I could get caught up. Because of the discrepencies between comics and movies, I mainly rely on the movies, but borrowed some characters from the comics and 'rearranged' them. So, in this story, Warren turns out to be a student along with Bobby and Rogue. Moira MacTaggert appears later on, but in Austin, with Jean. Lorna Dane has a cameo as well. Lee Forrester is the other comicverse character who appears here. I should also mention talkingdonkey has beta'd this, and so any mistakes are definitely mine. If I do have any movieverse/comicverse elements seriously askew, do let me know -- I tried my best to keep them straight. .

I was poking through my X-Men stories folder, trying to see if there were any bits and pieces there I could salvage or rework for the X-Men ficathon. I came across my unfinished Phoenix novel in the process. There's a full outline, but at some point, I backed off because I realized when it came to Constitutional law, I was in over my head and I either needed to do some heavy duty research or fiddle with the outline to be less complex than originally intended. In the meantime, I thought I'd go ahead and post what there is of the story -- about 50,000 words or so. While I should be working on the X-Men ficathon story, I thought looking at this story -- one I was very attached to -- might help me fin the character voices again.

As usual, all story posts are friends-locked; if you want to read, just let me leave a comment and I'll add you to this LJ. Comments -- good and critical both -- always welcome.

I'll be posting the next part on Saturday. I've been under the weather the last couple of days and I have some things on the next scene (which is a long one) that needs to be polished, including some bad science which I know rocky_t will never forgive me for. I was hoping to get to those last minute edits tonight, but I think bed is the place for me tonight. Thanks for all the comments and encouragement :-) They're much appreciated.

I did mean to post the rest of the NaNoWriMo novel, but since it's unfinished, it probably won't happen. What I will be posting day-by-day over the next couple of weeks is a finished novella, but that hasn't been posted anywhere else. It's my X-Men powerswap novel, an answer to minisinoo's challenge, and it's about 30,000 words. It takes place before the first movie and then diverges into an AU retelling of the first movie (in fact, it includes some dialogue from the initial movie script, but not what actually made it onto the screen, I think). The name of the novel is "Faultlines" and it's not entirely in line with Min's challenge as rather than swapping powers, I gave Scott and Jean completely new powers :-). Also, some background for Scott was used with permission from Min, based on her Special series. Initial betas provided by jerie and talkingdonkey.

The novella will be friends' locked as I post it. If you want to be able to read it, just leave a message here and I'll add you to the flist. If you do have comments of the editorial nature, feel free to leave them. Hope you enjoy!

NaNo update

I finally reached the 50,000 mark this evening, actually just a few words over. I know illmantrim has finished as well, so go you! I posted about 13 scenes of the novel tonight and I'll post the remainder tomorrow. Unfortunately, despite shortening and summarizing events, I did not finish. I may continue after the holidays -- I owe some people some fic -- because I think Anne's story deserves to be finished. Thank you all of you for your comments. It was fun posting while writing -- it's something I've never done before and I've enjoyed it.

After I finish posting the WiP, I will probably post some older fics here that *are* completed (including one X-Men and one Sports Night), I just never have felt comfortable posting them publicly.
